Welcome to

Atita Solidarity Services Web Page

by Rev. Fr. Hiiboro Kussala Eddy

Thank you for your interest in Atita Solidarity Services.

My many years as priests and working with several categories of people, poor, rich, women, and children in the most difficulty situation of Sudan long years of civil wars, have greatly influenced and reinforced my zeal in search for true human dignity upheld through working together for healthier world. This interdependence has done much good. In recent decades, few human beings are emerging out of poverty than at any other period in history.  The civil war has come to an end but has ignited new responsibilities, which must be held collectively together.

In January 2005, after 21 years of civil war, a Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army/Movement (SPLA/M).  This historical event has particular implications for the people of Southern Sudan who are poor, of African ethnicity, and whose religion is Christian or of traditional African origins.

The CPA includes a referendum vote in 2011.  The people of the south will have the opportunity to vote for unity with the north, where the people are mostly Arab and whose religion is Islamic, or to secede.  The results of the referendum will have implications for the citizens of Southern Sudan and the local community itself has a meaningful role to play during this transition time. After 21 years of civil war during which the people suffered persecution, the local community is still very vulnerable.  Atita is designated for lobbing and disseminating social services and requisites of peace.
