This is a KAIROS moment for Southern Sudan. It is the opportunity to put into effect the 5 R’s of the CPA: reconciliation, rehabilitation, reconstruction, repatriation, and re-education or re-evangelization. The people of South Sudan need to be encouraged, involved and supported, need to be reenergized and physical structures need to be built.  Most importantly the general population needs to become informed about human and political rights.  There is also a need for education about the implications of the forthcoming referendum.

But the peace agreement which has put an end to the long suffering of the people of the Sudan also produces many paradoxes and new challenges. One half of Sudanese population still lives on less than $2 a day; majority on less than half that. More than 20 million people in the Sudan go to bed hungry every night. In the midst of miraculous medical breakthroughs, millions of people who need treatment for various diseases including HIV/AIDS are not getting it.

Spectacular technological expansion in a far distant land of the West produces global warming and air, land and water pollution which creeps as far as the Sudan. A sneeze in one place can produce an outbreak of illness halfway around the world. And, as we experienced throughout the entirely period of history.

In our endeavour to lay a firm foundation of basic education for the most abandoned, we intend bridge differences with the path of positive interdependence. Through the Atita Solidarity Services, we seek to pursue and push for that one goal -- by helping men, women, and children in our nation and others access life dignity standard through the social and economic empowerment of poor people, in the Sudan and abroad; by promoting citizen service; and through efforts to encourage people in conflict to value our common humanity above any differences that divide us.
